A Woman Manifest Symptoms Of Alcoholism And Depression And Schedules An Appointment To See Her Doctor
Cindy was a thirty-seven-year-old accountant who knew that she had some problems with her drinking. For example, within the past four months she has experienced the need to have two or three drinks before going to work, two weeks ago she failed a random hair alcohol test at her place of employment, four months ago she got stopped by the state highway patrol for a DWI, and finally, for nearly six months she has started to forget what she says and does when she drinks with her friends.
Similar to huge numbers of other individuals, Cindy's experiences with alcohol began little by little and continued at this pace for quite a long time due to the fact that sometimes she engaged in intermittent social drinking. As a matter of fact, for about eight months, every time she went out with her buddies to drink, she made sure to drink in moderation. Something about her drinking behavior, nevertheless, seemed to fundamentally change when she got divorced from her husband.
Cindy got dreadfully sad about the divorce from her husband, and as a way to abstain from her preoccupation with her negative feelings she made up her mind that she would start associating more regularly with some of her friends who love to whoop it up and drink. It didn't take too long, nonetheless, before her drinking increased to a significant degree the more frequently she went to and drank at private parties, sporting events, happy hours, family get-togethers, and dinner dates with her friends.
To be brief, she was having a ton of fun drinking just like everybody else in her group of buddies without much reflection about the alcohol short term effects and especially about the alcohol long term effects she has been experiencing. Yet somewhere in her mind she knew about the negative alcohol effects on the body and on the mind and that she most likely required alcohol rehabilitation but steered clear of the thought as much as possible.
One day during her yearly physical, her doctor asked her if she drank alcohol. Not wanting to tell falsehoods to her healthcare practitioner, Cindy owned up to the fact that she regularly drinks more than she should. In point of fact, she stated that she frequently drinks in an excessive and irresponsible manner. Then Cindy told her doctor about her general state of gloom. More explicitly, she stated that ruined relationships frequently triggered a negative sequence of events characterized by increased drinking which further led to more depressing feelings that, in turn, resulted in even more drinking. And this is specifically what took place when her husband and she got divorced three years ago.
Cindy's doctor then stated the following: "I am not trying to make a sudden judgment, but with your medical condition e may be working with two separate concerns. As a consequence, I think we probably should make an appointment for you to get an alcohol abuse and alcoholism assessment from my partner, Dr. Petroff, who is a drug and alcohol abuse specialist."
"Whether your drinking condition is more linked to alcoholism or alcohol abuse is not clear at this time, but I feel that further exploration is warranted. Then I believe we need to make an appointment for you to get a psychological assessment from another one of my partners, Dr. Miller, ."
"I need to get some additional information about your depression and see how much your drinking and depression are related." Cindy expressed her satisfaction with her healthcare professional's treatment plan and thanked him for his help and concern.
